สายตายาวแยกได้เป็น 2 ประเภท คือ สายตายาวตามอายุ และสายตายาวโดยกำเนิด
>> สายตายาวโดยกำเนิด เกิดจากกำลังแสงของตาน้อยเกินไปเมื่อเทียบกับความยาวของลูกตาอาจเกิดจากกระจกตาแบนหรือลูกตาสั้นเกินไป แสงถึงจอประสาทตาก่อนรวมจุดรับภาพ ทำให้มองเห็นไม่ชัดทั้งใกล้และไกล ในวัยเด็กส่วนใหญ่จะยังไม่รู้ตัว แต่เมื่ออายุมากขึ้นกล้ามเนื้อตาเสื่อมสภาพประสิทธิภาพการมองเห็นจะลดลง
>> สายตายาวตามอายุ เกิดจากความเสื่อมของกล้ามเนื้อตา เมื่อเข้าวัย 40 ปี จะเริ่มมีปัญหาการมองในระยะใกล้ไม่ชัดแต่ยังมองไกลได้ เป็นภาวะที่เกิดขึ้นโดยตามธรรมชาติ และมีอาการมากขึ้นเรื่อย ๆ จนถึงอายุประมาณ 60 ปี ผู้ที่มีปัญหาสายตาประเภทอื่น เช่น สายตาสั้น อาจมีภาวะสายตายาวตามอายุร่วมด้วย

การแก้ไขสายตาด้วยเลสิคไม่ได้มีเพียงผู้ที่มีปัญหาสายตาสั้น ผู้ที่มีปัญหาสายตายาวก็สามารถรักษาด้วยการทำเลสิคได้ โดยจะมีวิธีการรักษา ดังนี้
>> สายตายาวโดยกำเนิด สามารถแก้ได้ด้วยวิธี “FemtoLASIK” โดยการใช้ Femtosecond Laser เปิดแยกชั้นกระจกตาออกเป็น flap ผ่านแผล 20-30 mm. จากนั้นใช้ Excimer Laser ปรับความโค้งของกระจกตา โดยใช้เวลาในการยิงเลเซอร์ 40-45 วินาที ซึ่งวิธีการรักษาแบบ FemtoLASIK ถูกพัฒนามาจากวิธี LASIK ที่คนส่วนใหญ่จะรู้จักและคุ้นหู เนื่องจากเป็นการรักษาแบบมาตรฐาน
>> สายตายาวตามอายุ สามารถแก้ได้ด้วยวิธี “Near Vision” โดยการปรับความโค้งของกระจกตาด้วย Excimer Laser เพื่อให้เกิดสภาวะการมองเห็นแบบ Monovision การมองเห็นแบบ Monovision คือสภาวะที่ตาทั้งสองข้างมีความสามารถในการมองเห็นในระยะที่แตกต่างกัน โดยสภาวะนี้จะช่วยให้มีการมองเห็นในระยะที่กว้างขึ้น (มองชัดในระยะทั้งใกล้ และไกล) ซึ่งการรักษาแบบ Near Vision คือการแก้ไขสายตาเพียงข้างเดียวสำหรับการมองใกล้ โดยตาอีกข้างยังสามารถมองไกลได้เหมือนเดิม ซึ่งที่ TRSC จะมีการทดสอบการมองเห็นตาเด่น และจำลองการใช้สายตาแบบ monovision ก่อนทำการรักษาให้กับคนไข้
