A diopter is basically how strong your eye prescription is, not a measure of how “good” your vision feels day to day. When you see a negative number, it means your eyes struggle to see things far away, while a positive number means close-up focus is the issue. So something like -12.00 is quite strong, showing heavy reliance on corrective lenses.
