ReLEx VS LASIK ?

Currently, there are many methods of surgical treatment for refractive errors in Thailand. Whichever treatment method to choose depends on the individual's eye conditions. The well-known treatments are ReLEx SMILE and LASIK surgery, which most people may have heard of. But have you ever wondered what the difference between these two methods? We have an answer for you.

>> Difference between LASIK and ReLEx SMILE

  • ReLEx (Refractive Lenticule Extraction) SMILE (Small Incision Lenticule Extraction) is the most advanced treatment, and further development of LASIK for correction of refractive errors including myopia and astigmatism by removing excessive corneal tissue in the form of a lenticule through a small incision of 2-5 mm utilizing state-of-the-art femtosecond technology.

  • LASIK is the most commonly performed laser eye surgery to treat myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia, astigmatism, and presbyopia. A surgical procedure that utilizes the microkeratome blade to create a corneal flap and reshape the cornea with an excimer laser. LASIK surgery is a standard and globally accepted procedure for correcting eye vision problems.

1. ReLEx SMILE is currently the most advanced and further development of LASIK and it is considered all laser procedure.

2. With ReLEx SMILE, the chance of enhancement is 3 times less than LASIK.

3. ReLEx SMILE is a small incision surgery. The incision is only 2-5 mm. (Minimally Invasive Refractive Surgery) without creating a corneal flap, thus it is less disturbance to the corneas with shorter recovery time and faster healing than LASIK.

4. ReLEx SMILE has fewer side effects than LASIK. The cornea retains its natural shape because no flap is created. Less chance of glares and halos at night and the chance of vision regression is minimal.
