TRSC, Thailand’s First LASIK Pioneer, Welcomes Dr. Sebastian Marx, Vision Scientist from Jena, Germany


On October 15, 2026, TRSC International Eye and Vision Center welcomed Dr. Sebastian Marx, co-founder, Managing Director, Clinical Researcher and Head of the Testing Laboratory at JENVIS Research, Germany. He was hosted by Asst. Prof. Chavakij Bhumiboonchoo, M.D., Chief Executive Officer, and Pichit Naripthaphan, M.D., ophthalmologist specializing in corneal and refractive surgery. Dr. Marx was accompanied by Mr. Yosanan Prajaktham, Director of Vision Ventures Co., Ltd.



About Dr. Sebastian Marx

Dr. Sebastian Marx holds a PhD and is a special lecturer at Ernst Abbe University. In 2005 he co-founded JENVIS Research in Jena, where he has managed research projects and led clinical trials for nearly two decades.




He has published more than 80 research works in international journals including the Journal of Refractive Surgery and Contact Lens and Anterior Eye. His research covers intraocular lenses (IOLs) for cataract surgery, contact lenses, spectacle lenses and dry eye. He has also developed several new measurement methods used in lens testing.


Research Meets Clinical Expertise

Dr. Sebastian Marx is visiting Thailand for the first time as a guest speaker at the academic seminar “Vision Beyond Today” on October 17, 2026, at Lady L Garden Bistro, Nai Lert Park Heritage Home.



At TRSC, Dr. Sebastian Marx toured the center and met with our ophthalmologists, led by Dr. Pichit. The discussion brought together a researcher who develops methods to evaluate vision technology and the specialists who use that technology in everyday patient care. Clinical results help keep research focused on what patients need, and research helps raise the standard of care.



An Invitation to Jena, Birthplace of Carl Zeiss

Dr. Sebastian Marx invited Dr. Pichit and the TRSC medical team to visit research facilities in Jena, Germany. Jena is a world centre of optical technology and the birthplace of Carl Zeiss, a key technology in corneal surgery and laser vision correction (LASIK). The invitation reflects international recognition of TRSC’s medical team.

Since bringing LASIK to Thailand for the first time, TRSC has consistently applied proven knowledge and technology through the expertise of its ophthalmologists. Dr. Sebastian Marx’s visit is another step in TRSC’s international academic collaboration, supporting continuous improvement in the standard of care.
